About AEGEE Europe

AEGEE exists on two levels: local and European.

European is made for facilitating the existence of locals, giving the direction of development for whole association and managing. European level includes range of so-called bodies, including: European Board of Directors, Commissions, Committees, Working Group and multinational Project Teams.

 

Commissions and Committees have a supportive role in AEGEE: Committees share much characteristics with working groups, but instead of contributing to AEGEE’s fields of action directly, they help the other bodies by providing them services, information, infrastructure and materials needed to fulfill their tasks.

The aim of the Commissions is to supervise the accomplishment of the rules which direct the functioning of AEGEE. There are 4 Commissions in AEGEE including: Audit Commission, Juridical Commission, Mediation Commission, Network Commission and 6 Committees.

 

The Audit Commission is composed of three financially competent AEGEE members, elected at the Agora. Main tasks of AC are checking the bookkeeping of AEGEE-Europe, AEGEE locals, AEGEE Working Groups
and AEGEE-Europe events, approving the financial reports of AEGEE-Europe, AEGEE locals, AEGEE Working Groups and AEGEE-Europe events.

In past years members of AEGEE Kyiv Anna Gots and Ilona Bogomolova (Leonova) were elected to Audit Commision.

The Juridical Commission consists of three members: two AEGEE members with legal knowledge elected at the Agora, and one member appointed by the Comité Directeur out of the Commission’s members.JC commissioners
are dealing with a variety of tasks, ranging from monitoring Working Group Elections to help in the electoral procedure, to counting ballot papers during an Agora, and to collecting data for the JC archive. JC is taking tracks if everything in AEGEE happens according to internal rules.

AEGEE Kyiv member Diana Tupchienko has been elected several times as member and President fo Juridical Commission.

The Mediation Commission consists of a maximum four AEGEE members elected by the Autumn Agora for the term of one year. Furthermore, the President of the Juridical Commission is automatically a member of this Commission. MedCom acts in case a dispute occurs between members of AEGEE-Europe (locals, AEGEE Working Groups), and is responsible for making decisions in these cases, occasionally leading to disciplinary sanctions against the ordinary member of AEGEE-Europe. After carrying out an investigation, the Mediation Commission can suggest sanctions to be applied by the Comité Directeur and after by ratification of the Agora.

AEGEE Kyiv member Alla Resheten has been elected as a member of MedCom in past years.

Network Commission is one of the closest to locals Commissions.The number of Network Commissioners (NetCommies) is 11, out of which 5 are elected in the spring, whereas the other six are elected in the autumn, for a one-year mandate. It was established in 1996 ad since that time NetCom is supporting locals and developing within various channels. All the locals are distributed among 11 members. Supporting the coordination of local and regional fundraising and PR activities and helping the locals with nation-wide fundraising, furthering the cooperation and exchanges between locals are examples of NetCom activities.
AEGEE Kyiv member Olia Yushchenko was elected to Network Commission in past years.

Coming back to committees of AEGEE Europe. There 6 of them - Action Agenda Coordination Committee, Corporate Relations Committee, Events Committe, Human Resources Committee, Information Technology Committee, Public Relations Committee.


Action Agenda Committee has an overview of the implementation of Action Agenda and gives locals
guidelines and examples of best practises on how to implement objectives.

Corporate relations Committee  is providing funding possibilities for AEGEE-Europe by developing corporate partnerships and by preparing grant applications.
Events Committee is improving the quality and impact of all the events listed in the Calendar of Events of AEGEE-Europe, Assisting, supporting and training event organisers at the local and European level of AEGEE.

Human Resources Committee is working on training new HR Responsibles and providing them with tools and materials for their work, developing a recruiting strategy for new members etc.

Information Technology Committee is supporting AEGEE in anything related to IT, maintaining AEGEE hardware, consulting and supporting other AEGEE entities.

Public Relations Committee is increasing the internal and external visibility and impact of all actions carried out within the AEGEE Network, improving the communication within the association.

Working Groups and Project Teams carry out the thematic work of AEGEE-Europe. AEGEE members from all over Europe share common interests. To express their visions and share their knowledge and experience international working groups are created, organising discussions, conferences and other events in their topics in different countries of Europe.
Currently to the list of Working Groups belong AEGEE-Academy (which has special status), Culture Working Group, Education Working Group, Environmental Working Group, Human Rights Working Group, International Politics Working Group, Sports Working Group, Visa Freedom Working Group,Language Working Group. Project Teams are created to provide high level of organization for thematic part. Usually these teams are international and work for the whole period of exiting project. Currently AEGEE runs with many projects, they are: Summer University, Eastern Partnership Project, Health4Youth, Europe in Exchange, Youth unEmployment, Higher Education Days, YOUrope needs YOU!, European Day of Languages, EuroArab.


Special place in this range takes SUCT- Summer University Coordination Team. This is the only Project Team that is elected on Agora. It consists of 4 people that take care and coordinate the whole project of Summer University during a year with fulfilling many tasks including approving each SU, providing help to organizers, creating booklet and organizing Summer University Project School.

AEGEE Kyiv members Alla Resheten, Anna Kotovych and Annie Smailikova were members of SUCT.

 

All the above mentioned bodies are governed and coordinated by AEGEE’s main institutions: the Agora, which is
AEGEE’s General Assembly, and the executive board of AEGEE-Europe called the Comité Directeur.


Agora is the main meeting of all locals’ representatives that takes time 2 a year – in spring and autumn and gathers
over 800 members of AEGEE for 5 days in order to discuss key questions, elect new teams for administrative bodies of the Association, follow activity reports and vote for changes to the existing rules. Agora is organized by an AEGEE local and coordinated by the special body called The Chair. The Chair is responsible for AEGEE’s statutory meetings, the Agora and the European Boards’ Meeting including choosing representatives of the locals, making agenda, leading discussions and making amendments to the format of Agora in order to organize process in the most efficient way.


Comité Directeur (also called as CD) is a board of AEGEE Europe who is responsible for coordination and strategic development of the Association. It consists of 7 people who are elected at Spring Agora for 1 year. This team is managing AEGEE as trusted leaders and reports to members of AEGEE.  CD leaves in our Head Office in Brussels and as all members of AEGEE get to payment for their work. Currently team consists of: 

 

  • President – Reka Salomon (AEGEE-Debrecen, AEGEE-Aachen), who is responsible for coordination of External Representation of the association with the European Parliament, Council of Europe, European Youth Forum, European Civic Forum and United Nationsm, Coorination of advocacy and policy work of AEGEE-Europe, Comite Directeur team management, Coordination of Les Anciens (alumni Network).

 

  • Secretary General – Katarzyna Sokolowska (AEGEE-Krakow). Her tasks include administration of the AEGEE-Europe head office, preparation of statutory meetings, internal team work of the Comité Directeur, including support, communication and information flow, Coordination of the work of the Liaison Officers and Policy Officers.

 

  • Financial Directeur – Zvonyimir Canjuga  (AEGEE-Zagreb) takes care of administration of the finances of AEGEE-Europe, management of the bookkeeping, financial reports, budgets of the association, control of the expenditures, Assistance to the European Institutions Director with budgeting and financial reports for applications.

 

  • Vice President and External Relations Directeur – Maarten de Groot (AEGEE-Amsterdam) works on establishment of partnerships for financial support, for media and on any other co-operation basis and coordination the work of the Corporate Relations Committee.

 

  • Projectsand Communications Directeur – Joanna Pankowska (AEGEE-Warzawa) provides supporting, guiding and monitoring all European and AEGEE-Europe projects and Working Groups. Initiate and support new projects and initiatives, ensuring the implementation of the Strategic Plan and coordinating the Action Agenda of AEGE - Europe. And also she works on supporting the cooperation between AEGEE-Europe and our institutional partners in Europe (European Parliament, European Commission, Council of Europe), ensuring that the youth opinion reaches our stakeholders by implementing a strong communication strategy.

 

  • Network Directeur  – Evangelia Touska (AEGEE-Kastoria, AEGEE-Sofia) is keeping an overview of the AEGEE Network, updating relevant databases and ensuring the development of the local branches, in cooperation with the Network Commission.

 

  • Human Resources Directeur – Tegla Hajdu (AEGEE-Budapest) works on supporting the Human Resources of the local branches in close cooperation with the Human Resources Committee, Development of internal education tools.
